Pak Lah’s Hari Raya Surprise and Reprise?

Pak Lah’s press statements deserve a closer look.  He is a veteran politican.  He is under siege from his opponents both inside and outside Umno.  He has made a transitional arrangement with Najib by 2010.  Then he said it will be earlier.  Now he announces a postponement of the Umno election to March 2009.

Read his statements again.  It may not be quite what everybody thinks it is after all.  There may be a surprise in there for Najib, Muhyiddin and the Umno Supreme Council who have all but forced him into an imminent retirement.

Razaleigh starts against Najib

As expected, right after Pak Lah‘s announcement on the postponement of the Umno election from December to March 2009 to facilitate the transition, Razaleigh now starts his campaign with his first shots (read MalaysiaInsider here).

“I reject this transition of power because it is extra-constitutional,” the veteran Umno member told reporters at his home here.

He criticised the transition plan for being unethical as “it is not stated within the party’s constitution”.

“This is not a game, because the leadership of Umno is also the leadership of the country.

“We have to be more responsible than that. Don’t allow people to laugh at us!” he said, noting that the flip-flop political agreement between Abdullah and Najib created great confusion among not only party members but among ordinary Malaysians as well and had turrned the whole country into an international laughing stock.

Yesterday’s posting to as reaction to Pak Lah’s announcement was “Handover to Najib – Will that Happen?” and we dabbled with the possibility that many things can happen between now and March.  The opposing forces will certainly not sit around quietly for sure.  It has started!

Handover to Najib – will that happen?

In an emergency Umno Security Council meeting today, a decision was made to postpone the Umno election to next March.  The postponement of the AGM was to facilitate the transition.  The earlier transition plan was to handover to Najib by June 2010.

Pak Lah was trying to keep his decision a secret if he was going to stand for elections or not.

Abdullah said he has not decided whether he will defend his post as president. He will make an announcement before Oct 9.

Malaysia Berjaya?

One of the oldest patriotic songs that brings back fond memories to many Malaysians is “Malaysia Berjaya“.

In a time where people like RPK and many others are now incarcerated in Camp Kamunting for years without trial to defend their “so called” misdeeds in the court of law, in a time when Pak Lah still aspires to reform the Judiciary even after four long years and the exit of Zaid Ibrahim, in a time when there is so much sadness for fellow Malaysians being removed from their families by the stroke of a pen of one man, we wonder if Malaysia has truly “berjaya” (trans. succeeded).

Here is that song…

The King’s say in removing the PM…

Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin is the King of Malaysia. He is the ultimate ruler of Malaysia, the King, The PM Maker.  It is in his hands if what was reported about Pakatan Rakyat’s move is true.  We have seen what happened in Perlis, Perak and Trengganu.  Is this another of those times?

PM Surprise Move, Now over to Najib and Anwar

It appears that Pak Lah will defend his presidency this December.  Judging from today’s MalaysianInsider report here, Pak Lah seems to have risen above the detractors in the Umno Supreme Council meeting last week.  Instead of caving in to Muhyiddin, Rafidah, Hishamuddin and Apdal Shafiee who were reportedly going for the jugular pressing for Pak Lah to handover to Najib, Pak Lah took a deep breath and shocked them by doing just the opposite.

Will Najib want to go against his boss?  Will his backers push for the prize now?  Does Najib want to defy Pak Lah?  Pak Lah today knows who is for him and who is against him.

Times of Grave Uncertainty

The world’s markets fluttered at the news of ailing giant companies floundering.  Malaysians are grappling how to manage with the 8.5% inflation rate, highest for a long time.  Pump prices remain high in a fuel net export country.

Who is doing what in Malaysia for Malaysians?

What will tomorrow be?

A peek into the future is what every Malaysian wants now. What are some of the things that can happen from hereon? What will our beloved country, Malaysia, become? Who will be taking our Malaysia forward? Will there be a storm brewing, or a hurricane for that matter? Is there going to be a silver lining? Can we see the sun coming up on Malaysia? Or the night is going to be long?
